I have been a sculptor in wood since 2002, and I show my work in galleries around the UK. I am a member of the Makers Guild in Wales and the Welsh Group.
I came from Belgium in 1981 to study civil engineering at Cardiff University and graduated in 1985. My interest for working in wood developed from my passion in sailing and boat building.
After several career changes, and when I was looking to work from home, I was able to develop my interest and work as a sculptor.
I have two very different methods of working. One is planned in detail and extremely accurate, cutting and shaping interlocking pieces; whilst the other is much more free and spontaneous, a continual dialogue between me and my piece. Both methods involve working with traditional hand tools and electric tools.
I am inspired by the natural beauty of wood which I work to reveal and accentuate. I work exclusively in Welsh wood for ecological reasons, but also to emphasise that beauty is all around us.
